The Convergence Project is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization. So all contributions can count as full tax deductions.

The Convergence Project is currently involved in raising funds as part of a challenge match. An individual has pledged $1,000 if that sum is matched by other individuals or organizations, bringing the total to $2,000. If that sum is raised, the donor will pledge another $2,000 with the condition that it also be matched with other donations.

This initial funding raised by new organizations like The Convergence Project is extremely important to demonstrate support for the project to those making the determination about 501(c)(3) designation, the designation that the Internal Revenue Service of the United States gives nonprofits that are tax exempt and to organizations to which individuals and groups can make contributions that are tax deductible. Designation of 501(c)(3) status for The Convergence Project is currently pending. American citizens making donations at this time will be able to count them as tax deductions if 501(c)(3) designation is approved, in the calendar year of 2008. Currently, donations are not tax deductible.
